The Housing Corporation of Charlotte County has been administering housing programs since 1994.  It is an approved U.S. Housing & Urban Development (HUD) agency and an approved Department of Justice (DOJ) agency to provide bankruptcy counseling and financial education courses.  It also has adopted the National Industry Standards for Homeownership Education and Counseling and the Foreclosure Intervention Specialty.  The organization has administered the State Housing Initiatives Partnership program, the Rehabilitation and Down Payment Assistance Programs, the Hurricane Housing Rehabilitation Program, the My Safe Florida Home program and many other comprehensive housing counseling programs.  All the organization’s programs provide local, state or federal funds to help low to moderate income households rehabilitate, mitigate, obtain or retain their homes. 

The Housing Corporation’s subsidiary, the Peace River Housing Trust, offers non-traditional homeownership opportunities in Charlotte County.  This program makes homeownership more affordable because the transfer of title to the homeowner does not include interest in the land, thereby making the home even more affordable.   The corporation’s Neighborhood Revitalization Lease-to-Own program helps those individuals with certain credit issues to take time to resolve their debts while living in a property they may purchase.  This program is a 24-month program where case managers and counselors work with the household during that time helping the family reach their financial plan in order to be eligible to obtain a mortgage within the term of the lease.

Other programs offered by the corporation are educational in nature, such as Financial Management, Budget Development, Credit Repair and Household Maintenance.  

The Housing Corporation of Charlotte County, Inc. is a non-profit organization under contract with the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners to administer SHIP (State Housing Initiatives Partnership) funds for homeownership programs.
